I need to rant. Dreamweaver has the most frustrating, nearly non-functional implementation of FTP ever. You would think that a product that has been around for over a decade would excel at the basic neccessities of web design. Chief among these is the ability to manage the workflow for a designer wishing to edit files directly on a production server with FTP.

Dreamweaver allows this, but does so in a way that will probably ruin your life.

For instance, opening a file on an FTP server causes Dreamweaver to download a local version of the file, allow you to edit it, and then publish the changes upon save. This is really great until you accidentally press “Put” and all of those local file you forgot existed are uploaded to overwrite all of those new versions you laboriously tweaked from another computer.

But of course you will only get to experience this malady if you are actually able to keep a connection to your FTP server, which Dreamweaver is unable to do. I swear half of my development time is spent staring at a “Waiting for server” dialog. Dreamweaver is completely unable to revive a connection that is stale. You have to close it and reopen it, pray, cuss, and kick a small child to get it to work.

Do Adobe developers even use this piece of crap?

When it comes to syntax highlighting and things of that nature, Dreamweaver seems to keep up with most other editors, but who cares…I mean simple pieces of software like TextPad easily keep up with these features at a much more reasonable cost.

So thank you Dreamweaver for ruining my life. I hope to return the favor someday.

In the meantime, can someone suggest a resonable alternative that won’t ruin my life?

I’m sitting in the White Hart, one of my favorite places on earth. A few minutes ago, the table behind me was occupied by three people in their 60′s or 70′s.

They were discussing last night’s debate and their criticism of John McCain was as thoughtful and reasoned as the statement “He looked so old!” This last word was uttered with particular disdain. The implication was that someone that ancient has no business running for president.

They discussed this at length. Meanwhile, I listened, thoroughly distracted.

Senior citizens voting against someone because they are old is like a black person voting against Obama because he is black. (Which, as stupid as that sounds, some have actually said this)

It is tough to participate in a political system so ruled by the whims and emotions of a populace that is unwilling to be informed and make informed decisions.

Instead, the race for presidency has degenerated into a popularity/beauty contest with a slice of “who can promise the most?” for dessert.

Gone are the days of “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Instead it is all about “What do I want and how can I get it…at any cost.”

But, I guess I already knew that. I just don’t understand old people not voting for someone because they are old.

What hath God wrought?

Debating global warming is like debating evolution: utterly pointless.

There is so much quasi-science available to construct almost every conceivable argument for and against that facts are nearly useless.

The reason for this is simple: Proponents of impending castostrophic global warming, like proponents of unguided macro-evolution are emotionally driven, not fact driven. It makes perfect sense too.

If you believe that we are the product of natural processes that randomly conspired to form life which eventually beget human life, you are faced with a inescably meaningless existence. While you have the benefit of being autonomous and free to choose your own standard of morality and justice, you have the disadvantage of having nothing to look forward to except for eventual, final degredation into the dirt from whence you came.

Life without purpose is not life at all, as most of us know. How does one find purpose in a meaningless life? By finding a dilemna that is both caused by and solved by humans. This is why man made global warming is so attractive to liberals. Those who spend their days feeling guilty about their own and America’s prosperity, are able to project these feelings onto the entire world.

Global warming will destroy the planet, they say. It’s our fault, they say. But most importantly, only we can stop it.

And therein lies the purpose of their lives. Which brings us to another fascinating quality that liberals share: the desire to force everyone else to act like them.

It is never good enough for a liberal to follow his or her passion in solidarity. Think about it, how many meat eaters are out marching in the streets and writing articles about the dangers of a vegetarian diet and asking congress to ban soy products? None. But there are plenty of vegetarians who would have us belief that beef is toxic and should be criminalized. (and a few that will say that milk causes internal bleeding)

How many suburban drivers are trying to lobby the car industry to eliminate small cars? None. But there are plenty of environmentalist wackos out there trying to stop those who do drive SUVs from being able to.

How many fast food frequenters are trying to make everyone eat fast food? None. But there are tons who are actively trying to shut McDonalds down and add taxes to food considered unhealthy.

The list goes on and on. We should ban incadescent lights. We should force auto makers to make more efficent cars. We should punish oil companies for making too much money in the commodities market. (if you have taken any economics classes, you know how ironic that last sentence is)

Liberals find their meaning in imposing their agendas on the rest of us. Liberals find their meaning in restricting everyone else’s freedom.

When they say that global warming is everyone’s job, they really mean it’s everyone’s fault.

So when I want to vomit everytime I see NBC’s “Green Is Universal” commercial with a helpful tip for how I can save the planet, now you’ll understand why.

Shanna reminded me of something I have been thinking for a long time now.

Nearly everyone, devoutly Christian or quasi-Christian, lists Mere Christianity in their list of favorite books. The casual observer might not think this odd, but as someone who is reasonably intelligent and has actually delved into the pages of this master piece, I’m very skeptical.

Mere Christianity, henceforth refered to as MC, is a collection of transcripts in book form. It is not light reading and cannot be consumed casually. C.S. Lewis has a way of packing meaning, direct and indirect, into each sentence such that each page must nearly be read twice to keep up with his reasoning.

I fully admit that I have yet to finish MC. I intend to someday, but it is not a trivial task. It requires reflection and a healthy amount of critical thinking.

Bearing all of this in mind, my hypothesis is this: 9 out of 10 people who say Mere Christianity is their favorite book have not read it, or at the very least have not finished it.

Government majors love to discuss the moral responsibility of voters.

The dilmena essentially comes down to this: should a voter vote for the person most likely to beat the least desirable candidate, or should they vote for the candidate that is most closely aligned with their belief system?

Those who take the first view argue that it is better to have a somewhat desirable president than a completly undesirable one. Opponents make the sound argument that voting for the populist candidate teaches politicians to be popular, not principled. They say it is better to vote for a 3rd party with no chance of winning than a “lesser of two evils” because no one should vote for an “evil”.

For the most part, I agree with this. It is ideal…that is undeniable. Under any other circumstances I would agree, but alas I cannot apply this logic to this election.

The front running Democratic candidate with the most chance of winning the Democratic primary (and a good chance of being our next president if you believe the polls) is Hillary Clinton.

As many of you know, Hillary Clinton is a close personal friend of Satan. They are so close it is often hard to distinguish them.

Hillary has many ideas for the future of America. They include:

Free nationalized health care for all (and the taxes to pay for them). This also means the elmination of available private alternatives.

Legally equivalent domestic partnerships and civil unions for homosexuals.

Continued protection of a woman’s “right to choose”

A platform that includes terms like “Prosperity for America” and ideas like giving every person in America 1,000 dollars and every 18 year old 5,000 dollars.

Welfare expansion and even more entitlements.

More restrictions on free enterprise in the form of higher taxes and penalties on companies that contribute to so-called global warming.

Gun control that rivals the communists.

Much much more….do your own research.

In short, Hillary Clinton is an unabashed socialist and possibly the most dangerous candidate with a real chance to win in history. She is trying to buy the votes of the uninformed with outlandish promises of wealth and protection from the rest of us productive members of society.

She has no actual values, only invented ones. She will say anything that she thinks the American voters want to hear without regard to truth or what is best for America.

She is a Clinton through and through and we can expect the same corruption and deceit.

*catches breath*

You get my point. My point is quite simply this: I will vote for ANY republican who is running against Hillary. Even if that means voting for a Mormon or a Democrat is disguise (Guilliani).

That last sentence is going to shock some of my friends. How could I vote for pro-Abortion, pro gay marriage, pro gun control Guilliani?

It’s safe to say that I would not support Guilliani in the primary and that I do not want him to be the next president of America, but in a contest between Guilliani and Clinton I would vote for Guilliani expressly to prevent Clinton from winning.

Why? Because I would rather have a liberal Republican who will be a pacifst on the issue of abortion, gay rights, and gun control than a socialist who will be an activist on those issues. I would rather have abortion uncontested for 4 years than actively protected for 4 years. I would rather have liberal judges elected than socialist ones. I would rather have a liberal president who pretends to be a conservative, than a socialist president who pretends to be a liberal.

This is obviously an extreme example. The election is still more than a year away. I do not expect Guilliani to win the Republican primaries.

Unfortunately, the best choice the Republicans seem to be presenting this year are people who are “not Hillary”. And sadly that is enough for me.

I encourage you to weigh the pros and cons. Is a socialist president worth the satisfation of knowing you voted for the candidate who most represented your beliefs?

After doing some research online today, I learned that Best Buy is selling Logitech diNovo Edge keyboards for 60 dollars or less. Considering the retail price for one of these bad boys is $200, I decided it would be smart for me to purchase one.

I picked up the first box on the rack of 3 that they had left. It felt a little bulky and normally I would have picked through the available inventory and selected the best “feeling” box, but with a helpful employee standing over my shoulder I just grabbed the first one and headed towards the register.

As I waited to pay at the register, I wiped dust off of the cover and thought in the back of my mind “I wish I could have selected a better box.” The front of the box seemed to bulge a bit. “Whatever” I told myself. “It doesn’t matter what the box looks like.”

Upon arriving at home, I looked on eBay and was happy to see the same keyboard I purchased selling for a minimum of 40 over what I paid. I started making plans to buy the other 2 and sell them for a profit.

Eyeing the box again, I decided I wanted to play with my new toy. I removed the stickers that secured the top of the box. Slipping off the top, what do you think I found?

Well if you guessed a Logitech diNovo Edge “Most Advanced Keyboard in the World” you are wrong. What I found instead of a stupid piece of crap PS2 eMachine keyboard that had been stuffed in the box.

Best Buy of course closed at the very moment I made this discovery.

Basically, someone bought one of these keyboards, put their keyboard in the box and returned it as unopened. And some idiot at Best Buy fell for it.

I only hope I don’t have any troubles remedying this mistake tomorrow morning.

Also, if any of you reading this decide to go buy the remaining keyboards I will hunt you down and stab you.

In the words of Forrest Gump, “That’s all I have to say about that.”

MySpace is an unbelievably bad website. There’s no order. There’s no consistency (besides being consistenly terrible). There’s no usability. If someone were to show me MySpace and tell me it would sell for a half billion dollars, I would laugh at them so hard I might lose a lung.

It breaks every rule. It’s so bad that even my sisters (who unfortunately use it) have to admit it’s terrible. There only come back is “”Well, it’s getting better.”" Yeah, getting better after someone gave someone else 580 million dollars.

It brings me back to 1999 when I was working on such failed dotcom ideas as eKidsPlace.com and YourPediatrician.com (both defunct). We were laboring under the misaprehension that we might have to have a good product to become millionares.

Thanks for proving me wrong MySpace.

And besides looking terrible and working terrible, it’s also a social mess. There’s no verification of anything. You don’t *know* who anyone is. Anyone could be anyone and they usually are. It’s a parents worst nightmare. My overall impression of MySpace is that it attracts the most shallow of mankind. It’s as bad as IRC.

*shakes head*

What is the Internet coming to?

So probably three years ago I had a moment of brilliance. I took the words precisely and exactly and paired them up as a super team of verbiage.

The result? Prexactly. My friends can verify my frequent and consistent usage the last few years.

I’ve also never heard anyone else use it unless they first heard it from me.

Well, much to my alarm, people all over the world are using it…and claiming they thought of it!

May it be known, and inspite of whatever else you hear…I was first. I started prexactly.

If you think I didn’t…well you can JUST DIE!
