Asking Juno and NetZero to unblock you (nicely)

Part of my job involves doing some administration of our exchange environment. Ever so often we have users who accidentally give their passwords to spammers who generate thousands of spam messages from our servers. This results in many domains blocking our mail servers temporarily.

This morning I found that Juno and NetZero were blocking us in this fashion. Telnetting to their servers resulted in “Access denied.”  I also found that Juno and Netzero have completely useless websites. This also includes their parent company.

After calling Juno technical support and realizing they know nothing at all, trying to call United Online’s VP of Corporate Communications (whose cell phone number is on their page!), I happened to stumble upon a well hidden portion of their website:

http://www.unitedonline.net/postmaster/blocked.html

Which, as the URL sort of suggests, contains their unblock request form. Now let’s see if anyone actually checks that.
