I’ve seen a few movies this break which I shall recommend for your viewing pleasure.

Stranger Than Fiction
It won’t be what you expect. You may not even know how you feel about it. But you will like it. Dustin Hoffman’s character is excellent as a “”literary detective”". Will Ferrel does a good job in a lower key role. No overacting this time, just acting…and it works. Greatest movie ever? No. But definitely worth seeing.

Night at the Museum
Night at the Museum is just an excellent, squeaky clean Christmas movie. It has tons of great actors. Robin Williams is amazing as Teddy Roosevelt. Ben Stiller stays close to home and plays the role he is best at: a down to earth guy who is trying hard to prove himself to the woman he loves (and the world) while things continually go wrong. While the trailer looked mind numblingly stupid, I was pleasantly surprised. Go see it.

Sleepless in Seattle
I know. It’s old. It was released in 1993. But unbenknownst to me, I had never seen it before this evening. I thought I had. I think it may have been one of the best romances I’ve seen. I’m treading on dangerous ground here–I’m a guy and I’m not supposed to have opinions about romance movies and how great they are or aren’t. This one was good though…and I’ll tell you why as always. Throughout the whole movie Sam and Annie are leading totally separate lives. They are two different stories. Two different struggles to find true love.

It is only in the end that they get the chance to really meet. And what do they say? Hardly anything. Do they kiss? No. They just hold hands. And everyone watching knows it is the magic they were both looking for.

Ingeniously portrayed.

But don’t take my word for it…

Goodnight,
Clifton
